LB Recreation Center Synthetic Turf Fields Officially Opened During Ed Smith Softball Tournament
Police Commissioner and Mrs. Sofield, Council members McLaughlin and Remo, Rec Leader Paul Ferrante, City Manager Theofan, Recreation Commissioner Brand, Ed Smith and wife Betty, Assemblyman Weisenberg and Council member Tangney enjoy the turf fields prior to the tournament.
The City of Long Beach officially opened the new synthetic turf fields at the Recreation Center this past weekend during the 2nd Annual Ed Smith Softball Tournament. City Manager Charles T. Theofan, City Council members John McLaughlin, Leonard G. Remo and Denise Tangney, State Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg, Police Commissioner Thomas R. Sofield, Sr., Parks and Recreation Commissioner Joseph Brand, Jr. and Recreation Leader Paul Ferrante were all on hand to help kick off the tournament and celebrate the new playing fields.

Services and Support Offered at the 6th Annual Senior Information & Assistance Fair at the Long Beach Public Library
Information packets are provided to Freda Eiberson by Long Beach Senior Advisory Board for the Aging members, Grace Levie Linda Chong-Haber.
The Senior Citizens Information & Assistance Fair, presented by the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs was held at the Long Beach Public Library on Tuesday, April 29. The county-wide program provides seniors the opportunity to become familiar with the many services offered by Nassau County and the City of Long Beach.

NIGHTTIME HYDRANT FLUSHING BEGINS APRIL 28

Long Beach City Council President Thomas R. Sofield, Jr. has announced that in order to avoid disruption to residents’ daily lives, hydrant flushing will take place between the hours of 10PM and 5AM this spring. Hydrant flushing will begin April 28th between Edwards and Maple Boulevards and end May 9th. From Monday, May 12 through Friday, May 30th, flushing will take place between Edwards Boulevard and Nevada Avenue.
2nd Annual Ed Smith Softball Tournament This Weekend
The Long Beach Recreation Department is proud to announce that the 2nd Annual Ed Smith Softball Tournament will take place April 25th – 27th. This Tournament honors Ed Smith, a man who has contributed so much in over 50 years as both a player and umpire to the Recreation Department’s Softball Program. Ed will be on hand to throw the first pitch.

Fourth Annual Senior Dinner Dance Set for May 15
On Thursday, May 15th, from 4:30pm to 7:30pm, the City of Long Beach and the Advisory Board for the Aging will hold their fourth annual Senior Day Celebration Dinner Dance at Temple Emanu-El in Long Beach. Festivities will include entertainment by Ricky Pen, with food catered by Lido Deli. New York State Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg, a long time Long Beach resident, will be the evening’s honoree. All are welcome to attend.

Long Beach High School Students Tour Water Pollution Plant
Standing above the sludge tanks, Asst. Chief Plant Operator Ronald Ebright explains the process of treating sewage for LB High school students.
Eleventh and twelfth grade students from Long Beach High School recently took a tour of the City of Long Beach Water Pollution Control Plant. Mr. Onufrock’s AP Environmental Science class and Ms. Gobetz’s Earth Science class were guided through the water treatment process by Assistant Chief Plant Operator Ronald Ebright and trainee operator Brian O’Connor.

SENIOR CITIZENS INFORMATION & ASSISTANCE FAIR COMES TO THE LONG BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Nassau Department of Senior Citizen Affairs and the Long Beach Public Library will present their annual Senior Citizens Information & Assistance Fair on Tuesday, April 29 from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at the library.

Over fifty representatives from senior based agencies will provide information about health care, outreach programs, housing issues, Social Security, veterans’ services, insurance, hospice care and much more. Long Beach Medical Center will provide free blood pressure screenings.

The Kiwanis Club of Long Beach honored three Long Beach residents at their annual “Making a Difference” brunch, held at Lambrou’s in Island Park on Sunday, April 13. This year’s honorees were feted for their contributions to the community through sports related activities
